Yellow is warming, exuberant and radiant. It is daring, intrusive, and sometimes even sickly. Yellow is also the colour of Vincent van Gogh. The exhibition shows what yellow meant to Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries, starting with his Sunflowers painting. An installation by Olafur Eliasson highlights yellow's impact on art, fashion, music, and literature from around 1900. Using Vincent van Gogh’s iconic Sunflowers (1889) as a point of departure, the exhibition shows how the colour became a powerful means of expressing emotions, ideas and ideals – from warmth and energy to modernity, rebellion and spirituality – in the period around 1900.
