Tina Azar is a self-taught contemporary abstract artist based in Dubai whose practice is shaped by emotion, memory, materiality, and an instinctive relationship with the canvas. Through richly textured surfaces, expressive movement, mixed media, and distinctive touches of gold, she creates works that invite viewers to experience painting not simply as an image, but as something tactile, emotional, and continually changing.

Texture lies at the heart of Tina’s artistic language. Rather than approaching the canvas as a flat surface, she builds, scrapes, layers, reveals, and reconstructs. Her relationship with art began long before she considered herself an artist. A visit to the Louvre Museum in Paris became an important moment of inspiration, revealing to her the extraordinary capacity of art to communicate across time, culture, and language. Several years later, she began painting initially as a personal hobby. Gradually, the process became something more profound, a private language through which emotions that could not always be expressed in words could take physical form.

In 2025, Tina made the decision to dedicate greater attention to her artistic journey and the development of her contemporary abstract practice. Being self-taught has encouraged an experimental approach. Classes and workshops have complemented this independent exploration, while curiosity continues to lead her toward new materials, techniques, textures, and possibilities. Her influences cross artistic periods and movements. She admires the technical mastery and enduring beauty of Michelangelo and Renaissance art while also responding to the freedom, gesture, and energy found in the works of Jackson Pollock, Jean-Marc Haessle, and Gerhard Richter. Rather than following a single movement, Tina draws inspiration from the ways artists use material, composition, gesture, and emotion to establish a connection with the viewer.

She also participated in the Art International World Ocean Day Artistic Campaign 2026, connecting her work with broader conversations surrounding environmental awareness and our relationship with the natural world.

Across these experiences, themes of resilience, womanhood, transformation, environmental consciousness, and human emotion have continued to surface within her work. Yet Tina deliberately avoids prescribing a single interpretation. She believes a painting can hold different meanings for different people.

Ultimately, Tina Azar’s work is about connection. Through texture, movement, contrast, and light, she creates spaces where viewers can pause and encounter something personal within the layers. Her paintings do not demand to be understood in one particular way. Instead, they invite us to look longer, feel more deeply, and perhaps discover a fragment of our own memory within the surface.
