Hongkong: Christie’s presents “Masterpieces of Modern South Asian Art: Highlights from the Dabriwala Collection,” its first exhibition in Asia dedicated to Modern South Asian Art. Built and preserved across generations, the Dabriwala Collection reflects the passion and dedication of the Dabriwala family, particularly Rajendra Dabriwala and his son, Surbhit Dabriwala. Known for its exceptional quality and diversity, the collection celebrates the creativity and artistic achievements of some of South Asia’s most influential modern artists.

The exhibition features more than 20 artworks by celebrated masters, including Tyeb Mehta, Sayed Haider Raza, Akbar Padamsee and Narayan Shridhar Bendre. Through their individual styles and artistic approaches, these artists helped shape the identity of modern South Asian art, exploring themes of culture, identity, emotion and changing societies.

Presented at The Henderson in Hong Kong, the exhibition coincides with India by the Bay, an annual cultural programme celebrating India's artistic traditions and cultural heritage. This connection creates an opportunity to introduce South Asian modern art to a wider international audience.

Through this presentation, Christie’s continues its efforts to promote South Asian art across Asia and strengthen its recognition within the global art world. The exhibition also highlights the important role of private collectors in preserving artistic heritage and sharing significant works with future generations.

“Masterpieces of Modern South Asian Art” is not only a celebration of exceptional artworks but also a tribute to the collectors and artists who have contributed to the lasting legacy of South Asian modernism.
